Sam Zelenka
Sam began riding at the age of five and has spent over 20 years immersed in the equestrian world. With a background in hunter/jumper competition and training for eventing, Sam’s passion for horses has been a lifelong pursuit. After moving from Texas to Missouri, Sam returned to the equestrian community at MREC in 2022 and officially joined the teaching staff in 2024.
Teaching has always been a natural extension of Sam’s horsemanship. She began instructing beginner lessons at age 12 after years of lessons and shadowing, and has since expanded her skills through experiences in gymnastics coaching, personal training, dog training, and group management. Sam is a CHA Certified Instructor, Level 2 in both English and Western Riding, with English as her primary discipline and a growing appreciation for the western seat.
Sam specializes in working with young students and beginners, focusing on building a strong foundation of strength, coordination, and understanding of horses. Her comprehensive instruction blends time in the saddle with groundwork, fostering not only riding skills but also a deep appreciation for the bond between horse and rider.
Looking ahead, Sam’s personal goals include returning to eventing, training for endurance competition, and exploring mounted archery. As both an instructor and a rider, she is dedicated to cultivating confidence, connection, and a lifelong love of horsemanship in every student she teaches.
